2016's "Sarah Palin"

Rick Perry has never looked better than he does in his new mug shot.

Currently under indictment on "abuse of power" and "coercion of a public servant" charges,  the Perry case is grabbing headlines and column inches around the country.  According to Dallas Morning News columnist, Wayne Slater, the indictment is neither frivolous nor spurious as characterized by Perry, his supporters & Republican talking heads.  Slater thinks it has legs.

Meanwhile, Perry is out and about making speeches and gaining new followers. He made a big splash at the conservative Heritage Foundation by raising the alarm of ISIS at the back door of the U.S.
"There's the obvious great concern that, because of the condition of the border from the standpoint of it not being secure, and us not knowing who is penetrating across, that individuals from ISIS or other terrorist states could be [crossing]," he said. "There's a very real possibility that they may have already used that [strategy]."   The Hill 8/22/14
The article goes on to state the Pentagon strongly refutes that theory.
This is the guy who, during a 2011 Presidential debate with Romney, Obama, Ron Paul, et. al couldn't remember the three agencies he was going to dump when he became president
Perry was discussing his jobs plan and his flat tax plan when he said: "And I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when I get there that are gone. Commerce, Education, and the... what's the third one there? Let's see..."
 "...I can't. The third one, I can't. Sorry. Oops."    CBS News 11/10/11
Who does this remind me of...hmmmm...could it be ... SATAN?  Sarah Palin!  Wasn't she the good-looking empty headed alarmist spouting Barbie doll who commanded an impressive following to bolster her campaign and a surprising war chest despite her inability to conduct an informed interview with Katie Couric or anyone else for that matter.

Sarah & Rick have much in common.  They are attractive, well-dressed politicians full of sound and fury signifying nothing.  But hey,  at least we don't have to think too long and hard about ISIS beheading journalist James Foley earlier this week or the ongoing anger and police state tactics in Ferguson, MO.

This post is inspired by today's The Political Carnival post on the same.

GOP National brand "a mess"...

If the latest swing state polls are to be believed, President. Barack Obama has New Hampshire sewn up.

He is also significantly ahead nationally.

This morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe,  Chuck Todd asserted  the GOP brand is "a mess" and Romney's campaign is scrambling to spin the increasing loss of support.   Eugene Robinson's op-ed today in the Washington Post addresses the President's ever widening lead in the pending election:
Conservative activist circles are abuzz with a new conspiracy theory: Polls showing President Obama with a growing lead over Mitt Romney are deliberately being skewed
Romney's campaign is the screwiest I've ever seen.  I think I preferred McCain/Palin's.  At least that was entertaining.  This is just sad.

And to think I voted for Ross Perot in 1992!

Thanks for Nothing Anthony

I just commented on today's post by  "A Few Clowns Short".  It kinda put me in the mood to throw in my own two cents about Anthony Weiner, Democratic reprobate & loser.

We have a Republican field for 2012 expanding exponentially.  We have Paul Ryan's tax bill proposing significant cuts to Medicare.  We have Sarah Palin riding around on a bus acting like a PT to every reporter who asks if she's "a candidate for President."  We have Michelle Bachmann hiring the vicious Right Wing former political advisor to Ronald Reagan, Ed Rollins, as her political advisor in a bid for the Republican nomination.  We have the banks and retailers going at it over debit card charges:  should they have a ceiling or can the banks continue to rake in $95 billion or more dollars in revenue from swipe cards at the retail level?   We have General Petraeus and Secy of Defense Robert Gates retiring but insisting we maintain a strong presence in the Middle East.  Qaddafi refuses to step down.  Our soldiers are still "over there".  Oh yes, and our economy sucks.

What are we talking about?  Anthony Weiner's weiner.  It's front & center and diverting attention from everything that really matters.

He's a jerk.  He should resign.  His wife is to be pitied.  Let's move on.

Another History Lesson from Bachmann Palin Overdrive

Thank you Field Negro for this. My response is "How long, oh Lord, how long?"

The AP reports this out:

Revere was probably bluffing the soldiers, according to Joel J. Miller, author of "The Revolutionary Paul Revere." And while he made bells, Revere would never have rung any on that famous night because the Redcoats were under orders to round up people just like him.

"He was riding off as quickly and as quietly as possible," Miller said. "Paul Revere did not want the Redcoats to know of his mission at all.   Politico 6/5/11
If this doesn't ring your bell, perhaps Michele Bachmann's take on where the "shot heard round the world"  took place will do it for you.

The Road to Rogue

She's talkin' 'bout goin' "rogue" again in the 2012 election.

Talking heads on MSNBC say Michele Bachmann is so inspired by the lack of knowledge, history and whatnot Sarah Palin displays, she's tempted to throw her hat in the ring as well.

Ten million bucks a year, Sarah's income according to Chris Matthews, is a powerful incentive.

If I didn't think the average American is so disinterested, dazzled by personae and just plain stupid, I'd be amused.

As it is, somebody, please shoot me.

Sarah Trump Newtie and Mitt: Oh MY!

Hear Sarah Palin talk about "vanquish"ing a great enemy. Listen to the Donald flirt with Sarah as he invites her to join his run for prez. God, imagine those two on the same ticket.

For those of you looking for a bit more insight into Mitt than SNL can provide, go here!

Barbara Bush on Sarah Palin: Meow!

Now you've done it Sarah Palin!  You've pissed off the Old Guard.  Barbara Bush is on the warpath and you do NOT want that!  I'd rather face Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rove than Barbara.  She is one scary broad and she has alot of conventional Republican women in her corner.  I know.  My mom was one of them.

Wonder if George H.W. encouraged her?

Bristol Palin? Give Me A Break.

Brandy Eliminated from DWTS Competition As Bristol Palin Looks On
Nov. 16, 2010

Anybody who reads my blogs knows I like DWTS.  I don't go on and on about it.  In fact, I usually mention it once per season.  The show was a must see for me, its first 8 seasons; the stars were hard working and showed surprising growth and talent as they learned to maneuver intricate dance routines.  But around Season 10 it seemed to slowly fizzle like champagne going flat.  The "stars" weren't that talented and the competition lacked sizzle.

This Fall, Season 11 began with a group of people who just couldn't dance.  I mean, David Hasselhoff!!!!  Ugh.  There were exceptions:  Jennifer Grey, of "Dirty Dancing" fame ("Nobody puts Baby in the corner"); Kyle Massey (never heard of him but he looks familiar) and Brandy ( of Cinderella and teeny bop fame).  Those three progressed beautifully and were in the Semi Final competition Monday night.  But those three didn't make it to the Finals.  Brandy was eliminated to the obvious dismay of her competitors and probably the studio audience.  The judges did not look surprised.  "Leadfoot Bristol Palin" as she was dubbed by the NY Daily News made it to the Finals.  Talk about politics trumping justice.  This girl may be sweet, ingenuous, etc., but she's no dancer.  The news outlets seem to agree this is the Tea Party flexing their muscles.  I guess the Mid-Terms weren't enough of a statement.

It's been another great PR opp for the irresponsible irrepressible Mama Grizzly, Sarah Palin.   That broad is everywhere, shooting off her mouth.  Her ambition knows no limits.  First Bristol was the pregnant teenaged pro-lifer, then the on-the-road purveyor of abstinence, now the untalented but beloved girl who, in the words of her mother has "just gotta keep dancin'".

Even the judges are drinking the Kool Aid, preparing the audience at home and in studio for the inevitable.  The least talented, queen of the "bottom of the leader board" 7 weeks in a row is gonna win.  The audience is voting their emotions rather than their logic.  They're trying to prove a point, something along the lines of "I'll show them!" and  the judges are placating the girl and the audience saying she's "come the farthest" in learned dance skills.

I guess politics knows no limitations when it comes to promotional possibilities.  Too bad everyone else has to suffer.  How 'bout that guy in Wisconsin who was so upset he shot his tv set when she advanced to the Finals.? His wife fled the house.

Bristol Palin would not even be in this contest if it weren't for her mother and the potential ratings it brings to the network and ABC is crying all the way to the bank.

"Drill Baby Drill" ... How's That Workin' Out for ya?

Somebody please hold me back!

She actually had the gall to Tweet that her prayers are with the people of the Gulf today. Perhaps she should volunteer to help clean up the mess caused by doing something she so avidly advocates.

Two Wrongs Do Not Make A Right, Unless You're Palin & Bachmann

For the love of God, noooooooooo!!!

I guess nobody told Michele Bachmann about Geraldine Ferraro "breaking the barrier" as a female vice presidential candidate all those years ago.

I suppose you could promote them as "Dumb and Dumber The Freakquel".

Battle of the Presidential Wannabes vs Battle of the Late Night Stars

Some pretty fascinating conversations going on after Sarah Palin's appearance on Leno vs Mitt Romney's on Letterman. Not only are the talking heads saying Palin trounced Romney for viewership but the media watchers are wondering if Leno will regain his crown as King of Late Night or is this just a bounce for his return to the "Tonight Show"?

The most interesting piece I've read about it comes from a Twitterer known as SymbolMan who was in the Leno audience for Sarah's debut as a stand up comedian. He says it was laughtracked, the audience was silent or jeerish (a new word I made up) and she was poorly received. For more on this visit The Political Carnival where I first read his take.  After he discusses the SFX of laughter for Sarah Palin he lambastes Leno for the sell out.  Makes for a compelling read.

Google's Parisian Parody

Rather than blah blah blah about Sarah Palin's stupid handwritten notes to herself (why give her another headline?) I am instead posting the parody of the superb Google ad from the Super Bowl the other night. As parodies go, this is more poignant than funny. I find it equally compelling. By the way, I lifted this from one of my favorite bloggers in the ad world. Thanks Ad Broad!

A "Game Change" on Fox

I rarely, if ever, run out and buy a book the day it is released.  I wait for my BOMC catalog or the second hand book store to carry it.  "Game Change" elicited a different response.  I saw the authors interviewed on three programs in two days and I had to have it!
I went to my local independent book store to ostensibly buy a birthday card for my husband, which I did, and picked up the book as well.  I approach it with some caution; after all, it's spin about spin.  But, this last campaign was so exciting, so unexpected, had so much drama, the characters couldn't have been better crafted if they'd been authored by Mamet, Wilder or Shakespeare.  So, what's a little over-the-top?

Speaking of  "over the top", Sarah Palin is now a Fox news analyst.  Should be interesting.

Sarah Palin Is Coming to a Book Store Near You

If Sarah Palin doesn't have the decency to go away, we might as well make fun of her ongoing shameless self-promotion.  The Nation is doing just that with "Going Rouge: An American Nightmare" a parody of Ms. Palin's autobiography "Going Rogue: An American Life".

Both books hit bookstores November 17th.  Ya gotta love it.

Health Care andTown Hall Meetings

I post this as I watch President Obama on C-SPAN, speaking live at the Portsmouth, N.H. town hall meeting, not far from where I live. I don't see anything scary about what he's saying; it's the rancor over his proposal for nationwide health care reform that frightens me.

I missed the hoo-rah taking place when he arrived at Portsmouth High School for this meeting. According to the always-looking-for-trouble media, they expected a three ring circus of the perpetually pissed off with an added element of crazy. I will be curious to see the before and after behaviour of the people waiting outside when this is finished.

President Obama rightly points out the people screaming and yelling about how to pay for nationwide helth care reform are the same ones who agreed to the nationwide Medicare prescription bill which has contributed heavily to the current deficit. That bill passed both houses of Congress during the Bush administration with the full backing of the pharmaceuticals who continue to post tremendous profits without having to compete, on a pricing level, with their neighbors to the north.

I'm relieved to see, for the most part, respectful people asking informed questions. President Obama is answering those questions in specific detail while, at the same time, reminding the audience not to succumb to scare tactics rampantly being manipulated by those in opposition.

I respect each person's right to their opinion but it should be informed. His final questioner says Obama speaks from a "bully pulpit". He then goes on to ask a reasonable question, "Why does Congress enjoy a better health care plan than the average guy?" Personally, I think he divebombed his effectiveness by prefacing the question with an insult.

I despised the Bush Administration and all they stood for. However, had I attended a town hall meeting with President Bush as speaker, I would have addressed him with respect. I respect the office whether or not I like the man. People need to remember this.

Jon Stewart pokes fun at the polarization of the populace highlighted by the media and spurred on, most likely, by special interest groups financed by major corporations with a stake in all of this. Maybe he's right when he says people need to be reminded to "Quit makin' things up!" Sarah Palin would be the perfect person to put that across.

Palin Tweets & Shatner Beats...Then & Now

Think Progress has a great post on Sarah Palin's tweets that is fun to read. This is apparently how she intends to stay in touch after leaving office as Governor of Alaska. I am also borrowing this send up of her tweets by William Shatner aka Denny Craig aka Capt. Kirk. According to Conan O'Brien, her tweets are "poetry". I think I concur.

July 31 Post Script: While browsing around the internet this morning I came across this old Shatner/Capt. Kirk video. He really hasn't changed at all.

First Do No Harm...you betcha!

The Hippocratic oath charges medical doctors to "First, do no harm." I'd say Sarah Palin achieved that goal for the McCain campaign. She didn't stumble; she survived.

I had approached the Vice Presidential debates feeling somewhat sorry for Gov. Palin. She had been the brunt of so many jokes and such relentless media scrutiny emphasizing her lack of preparedness. I admit it; I felt empathy.

What was I thinking?

My husband and I were amused, amazed and finally annoyed by the quixotic twists and turns of her responses; the dogged persistance to stay on point, regardless of relevance to the questions asked. It was so Karl Rove.

I failed to keep count of how many times she used the words or phrases: "Gosh darn it", "golly": "maverick"; "nuculer" (a bush speech impediment) and "Eye-ran". Where was Amy Poehler/Hillary to say "The less you know, the more adorable you get."

I now look forward to the next Tina Fey send-up. "Expanding the vice presidential powers" is a good for a laugh. We need some humor during this most serious of presidential races. I just hope we aren't humoring ourselves into another Republican administration with Citizen McCain at the helm and Sarah "the Maverick's little sidekick" Palin waiting in the wings for him to expire. Heigh-ho Silver!
