AIG Loan: It boils down to two words...
Hanging out at The Urban Politico today and watched this hilarious Daily Show analysis of the AIG lawsuit. (Those two words are at the end of the video)
Yeah. I didn't know anything about it either. Stewart makes it so fun and easy to despise Wall Street.

Binders Full of Broads? Please proceed...
Yeah. I was offended. But Romney's debate response to helping women succeed in the work place illustrates his total lack of interest in what was, by that time, no longer a movement. Women were breaking glass ceilings, albeit slowly. Somehow, as Governor, he missed that.
Oh, and, by the way, he LIED about seeking out those women.
As much as this debate tied my stomach in knots with its lack of decorum, rude gestures, lack of respect towards the Office of the President if not the man. I longed for it to be over.
Then came the great faux pas.

Who Killed Osama Bin Laden?
Stewart nails it again.
I almost called this "Spin Doctors Voodoo Magic".

And Furthermore...
It may be too much to ask the GOP to stop "whining" about the removal of Osama Bin Laden being a political tool of the re-election campaign. But, so what?
Is it really necessary to point out the many ways in which the GOP politicizes
their many accomplishments?
Oh, wait. It is.

Now, if you want to hear the REAL MISSION ACCOMPLISHED by President George W. Bush Barack Obama, tune in Rock Center on NBC tonight (9PM E/8PM C). Brian Williams gave a riveting account of his exclusive from inside the Situation Room (no tv cameras ever before allowed) and his interviews with all cabinet and military members present with the President during the actual raid.

Blacker Than Black?
OMG, Stewart doesn't even need writers any more. People like Trump & Coulter are writing it for him.

The Field Negro
A favorite political blog, The Field Negro, has highlighted Women of A Certain Age in his side bar "Blog I Am Feeling". This author is a Philadelphia lawyer who posts a variety of political commentary on issues we all care about. His writing is observant, witty and he provokes alot of follow up commentary. Alot.
His post today is about Jon Stewart's recent interview with Chris Wallace and the follow up controversy. I was drawn like a bee to honey when I saw Stewart's face in the blogroll. You know how I love the guy, even when I don't like what I consider his pandering to certain guests or topics.
I won't play modest, I'm psych'd to be recognized. Thank you for the honor!

Metaphor for the Economy
Jon Stewart's writers produced an illustrative metaphor about the economy and ways to fix it.
This goes well with my previous post.

Nobody Does Bin Laden Better Than Stewart
I'd rather get my news from The Daily Show than anywhere. There's always a good laugh even when the news isn't so funny. This is the BEST "take" on the elimination of Osama Bin Laden I've seen. He also skewers Trump...again.

"The Daily" app is here and I Don't Mean Jon Stewart's
Rupert Murdoch introduced "The Daily", his new virtual newspaper, yesterday. The buzz on this has been mixed. Alot of people like the idea. Others question the content and changeability of that content because it is not, as one NewsCorp representative put it, "static".
I love the concept of a daily paper on an interactive tablet, in this case, Apple's IPad. But further reading of this article indicates it will be another gossip heavy offering with the usual NewsCorp spin.
"There is a growing segment of the population here and around the world that is educated and sophisticated but they do not read national print newspapers or watch television news," he said. "But they do consume media. And they expect content tailored to their specific interests anytime anywhere."That's why I won't be buying The Daily app.

Did Jon Stewart Move Zadroga Act Passage through Media Pressure?
My Dec 18th post referred to Jon Stewart's last show of the year, 12/16/10 when he invited 9/11 First Responders on as guests, conferring with them about their fatal illnesses brought on by exposure to the hazardous materials they handled and air they breathed during the long aftermath.
Stewart admonished the Republican side of the Senate for filibustering additional health care coverage to First Responders. He was extremely critical of mass media for failing to cover it. The next day, everybody was suddenly talking about the health care defeat for these brave men & women. A week later, before adjourning for the holidays, the Senate passed the bill with a reduced cap, from $7 billion to $4 billion.
Was Stewart the critical game changer? I think so.
For more insight to the role he played, go here.

Responding to First Responders
Jon Stewart had one of the most responsible, compelling and poignant shows last Thursday night when he hosted 911 "first responders".
Stewart has probably done more segments this year on the legislation known as the Zadroga Bill than any other topic. The bill would provide $7 billion in benefits for those who first responded on 9/11 and are now experiencing subsequent health problems such as cancer and respiratory disease. While it passed the House, Republicans have blocked the bill from advancing in the Senate. The Huffington Post
It was an interesting show from my perspective as I did not know what to expect. I mean, I'm a Stewart junkie and I know his sympathies and politics. What I didn't expect was the depth of individual illnesses these men were suffering. These firefighters are battling terminal illnesses as a result of an extraordinary amount of time spent at the 9/11 site.

Interestingly enough, Stewart had former Presidential hopeful and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee agreed with Stewart.
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee appeared on "The Daily Show" Thursday and discussed the Senate's stalling of a bill that would provide additional funding to bolster health care coverage of 9/11 first responders. Huckabee agreed that the legislation, known as the Zadroga bill, should be supported by Republicans, who have blocked the bill over concerns of how it would be paid for. The Huffington Post
Tonight, there is some indication the pressure on Congress to revisit this is building. I hope this is true. As it stands, this is a disgrace, no matter the price tag.

SSDD
Interesting headline from Robert Reich's blog today.
The Super Rich Get Richer, Everyone Else Gets Poorer, and the Democrats Punt
The super-rich got even wealthier this year, and yet most of them are paying even fewer taxes to support the eduction, job training, and job creation of the rest of us...Only twice before in American history has so much been held by so few, and the gap between them and the great majority been a chasm — the late 1920s, and the era of the robber barons in the 1880s...And yet the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, which conferred almost all their benefits on the rich, continue...Democrats have decided to delay voting on whether to extend them for the top 2 percent of Americans or for the bottom 98 percent until after the mid-term elections.
Sure hope this doesn't hurt the Dems in races where the Huff Post reports this morning:
Are the Democrats experiencing a rebound on the Pacific Coast? Three new surveys, two in California and one in Washington State, indicate small gains for Democratic since mid-August. More specifically, two new California polls confirm that Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer is maintaining a narrow lead over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina...The two new California polls also suggest a reversal of the previous trend favoring Republican Meg Whitman. The Field poll results released yesterday show Whitman tied with Democrat Jerry Brown (at 41% each), while SurveyUSA gives Brown a small but statistically insignificant advantage (46% to 43%). So while six surveys had shown Brown with nominal leads in August and early September, the five most recent polls show either a tie or a slight Brown edge...SurveyUSA also released new data this week in Washington confirming a similar rebound by Democratic Senator Patty Murray over Republican challenger Dino Rossi. The new automated poll gives Murray a two-point edge (50% to 48%)...Democrats also received encouraging news in Florida, where a new Mason-Dixon poll shows Democrat Alex Sink holding a six percentage point lead (47% to 40%) over Republican Rick Scott. And then, there's The Daily Show POV. His take last night on the Republicans and their "brand new"(sic) Pledge to America.

He's My Hero
I constantly post video snippets of Jon Stewart bits. He's the King of Late Night TV as far as I'm concerned. I'm not alone, of course. New York magazine's cover story is all about King Jon and the Jon Stewart decade this month. Here's why they think Stewart's "the man".
Stewart and "Daily Show" break out star, Stephen Colbert, are planning side by side rallies in D.C. on Oct 30th. Thumbing their noses at the Glen Becks of the world, Stewart and Colbert have named their gatherings "Rally to Restore Sanity" and "March to Keep Fear Alive", respectively.
I think I'm gonna go out and buy myself a New York mag and book a train ticket to D.C.
