This image was shot by my husband at least 6 years ago in the front yard of our home on the hill.  It's the home in which we raised our boys and have so many happy memories.  We sold it 5 years ago and moved in with the MIL, temporarily, only to discover she was no longer capable or solvent enough to take care of the 2 acres and old farmhouse in which she lives.  She just turned 88 and we're still in the farm house.  It's one of those ongoing fixer uppers.  My husband does a great job all around.  

Today is our fortieth anniversary with 3 years off for good behaviour when wwe decided to divorce!

Forty years ago a young bride of 23.  My how time flies.

Happy Birthday Honey!

My husband, photographer Cole Scott, celebrated his birthday yesterday with a new image and a quote from Chekhov.   Surprisingly, these are not stones below the water but ice flow in a pond.  

Les Fleurs du Printemps

Every once in a while I just want to publish something "pretty".  No politics, no opinions, no jokes, no controversies.  

Over the years, my husband has worked on close-up photography with flowers.  I like to share my favorites each Spring.  

Trickle Down Economy

While in Florida last January, my husband toured the Panhandle which he described to me as a long drive's worth of construction halted mid-development and left to decompose in the hot Florida sun.  He was especially struck by the poverty stricken aspect of many towns whose citizens were most likely the blue collars workers and whose part-time residents the well-off folks with second homes.

A Feeling of Contentment

There is something peaceful, very still about this photograph.  My initial reaction is along the lines of, "the more things change, the more they stay the same."  It has an intensely Buddhist feel to it, a sense of Nirvana, complete peace devoid of distracting needs.  For me, the ocean is a metaphor for peace which is why it gives me such pleasure.  I can be at the ocean and think of nothing else but where I am at that moment without worry about what I should be doing or regret for something I've already done.

My husband took this recently of a corner in our new family and kitchen combo.  I believe he unconsciously named it after the Dan Fogelberg album.  Love Fogelberg,  His song, Same Old Lang Syne, always brings tears to my eyes as does the album title song.

When I first saw this photo I thought it was a capture of a whimsical sculpture.  We had been to Shelburne Farms in Burlington,VT. and viewed some incredible sculptures in the basement of the Round Barn which is quite a piece of architecture in itself..  Anyway, I asked my husband about it and he said,

"No.  It's Rockefeller Center.  I took it on my trip to New York in August." 

He and our eldest son made an overnight trip to NY to pick up a large format printer he'd bought on ebay at a huge discount.  They spent one night in the city and he clicked away then created this very cool image out of one of his shots.  He was always a "Honeymooners" fan, hence the title.  I asked why he didn't put a face on the moon like the tv show but he said it would be "overkill". 

That's why he's the artist. 

Whimsy

There is a lot of whimsy in this photograph my husband posted to his flickr site this morning. Some of the fun stuff you'll recognize and some may be a bit hard to make out.

Welcome Summer!!!!!

Today is the first day of Summer aka summer solstice aka the longest day of the year.  Solstice only happens twice a year, summer and winter, and refers to the sun's position in the sky reaching either its northernmost or southernmost extreme as the earth's axis tilts away from or towards the sun.   That's about as technical as I can get and I stole that from Wikipedia!

My husband trekked across the street from where we currently live in his mother's farm house.  He loves getting up before dawn to take the dogs into a wetlands field.  He says the light is perfect early in the morning and late in the afternoon.  He shot this a few days ago and I think it's one of his best.  As you can see, there is a train trestle in the fields and, yes, we do have a real old-fashioned diesel train using the tracks.  It's a huge tourist attraction in these here parts.  People just love to get on board and ride and wave and enjoy the beautiful scenery as the train takes you up in the White Mountains through Crawford Notch.

The Art of Caring

My husband, my closest friend and several other people are the featured artists at an upcoming art show fundraiser which will benefit a Haitian orphanage.  The restaurant owner hosting the affair is one of six daughters of the woman who started the restaurant.  Her sister is my closest friend and a very fine artist in her own right.  My husband...well, you've seen his work. (it's good!)

The evening promises to be a lot of fun and will hopefully raise  a decent amount of money, 100% of which goes to the charity.  For $30, you enjoy delicious tapas and martinis made with Van Gogh Vodka, entertainment and art.  There will be an auction for the work on display.

I like the way they are going about this.  It's fun, intimate and  extremely generous because everything served will be donated.  Right now, during a downturn in the economy, getting creative when you fund raise is the only way to go.
