"The War That Did Not Happen"
If anyone thinks we can or should ignore the invasion of Iraq, think again. The Bush Administration perpetrated the jingoistic reaction to 9/11 with a false tie to WMD in Iraq and a bulls eye on Saddam Hussein.
Tonight, Rachel Maddow hosts "Hubris: The Selling of the Iraq War" at 9PM EST. Taken from the book by Michael Isikoff and David Corn, the documentary follows every false step lie and propoganda strategy by the Bush Administration in what Maddow calls "the war that did not happen."
President Bush demanded it.
Dick Cheney promoted it.
Congress went along with it. And we let them.
MSNBC explores this now ten year old declaration of war with the lies and fabrications by notables such as V.P. Dick Cheney, Secy of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, National Security Adviser Condi Rice, Deputy Secy of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and more! Tune in tonight to see the heroes and villains (mostly the latter) speak out.
Too bad they wouldn't do so at the time. We might have 4,000+ more soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens still with us.

Time to go Charlie
Congressman Charlie Rangel (D NY) has been a controversial, dare I say it, boil on the butt of the Democratic party for a long time. He is currently being charged with "multiple ethics violations" within Congress and he has chosen to fight the charges. He's pretty cranky about it too as seen below in his verbal tussel with Luke Russert, MSNBC.
If he's proven guilty of charges, he should go. Keeping him and others like him condones their behaviour. It's the wrong message.

Earth Day 2010
I hadn't planned to post today but when I saw this tweet from Rachel Maddow (no, not to me personally, I WISH) I had to re-post it and follow up with the latest from New York Times.
“We have multiple vessels on scene — all response vessels — and they are on scene there to help to mitigate the effects of the pollution,” Petty Officer Atkeson said in a telephone interview. He added that it was not clear how much oil had spilled into the ocean.
Nor was it immediately clear what, if any, environmental implications the rig’s collapse would have.

Oil Rig Sinks in the Gulf of Mexico
By CAMPBELL ROBERTSON and LIZ ROBBINS
NEW ORLEANS — The oil rig 50 miles off the southeast coast of Louisiana where an explosion occurred Tuesday night has collapsed into the Gulf of Mexico, a Coast Guard official said.“We have multiple vessels on scene — all response vessels — and they are on scene there to help to mitigate the effects of the pollution,” Petty Officer Atkeson said in a telephone interview. He added that it was not clear how much oil had spilled into the ocean.

No Apology Necessary
My husband just made a very good point after listening to Rachel Maddow's defense of President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
"The Nobel Peace Prize is an expectation and that is being acknowledged. Above and beyond that, the President is in a unique position because of these things:
1. His express desire to achieve world peace.
2. He occupies the most powerful office in the world.
3. He is a man of color which is relatable to the majority of the rest of the world
These facts put him in the unique position of getting closer to achieving world peace than anyone else in the world. On a relay team, the strongest runner always takes the anchor position even tho' he hasn't yet won the race. Giving Obama the Nobel Peace Prize acknowledges he is in the "anchor" position to achieve world peace."
No apology necessary.

President Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize
I am very surprized by the astonishment, dismay and criticism of President Obama for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Honest to God, even the damn news anchors are confused by this.
Rachel Maddow is not one of them. Here's her take on whether or not there is a precedent for "too soon".
You be the judge.

U.S. Govt According to Limbaugh, Moore & Burns
Depending on who you are, your perspective about our federal government will vary. Talk show tv was awash with perspective last night. I just happened to catch these three interviews:
- Limbaugh on Leno
- Michael Moore on Countdown
- Ken Burns on Rachel Maddow
I'll start with the Limbaugh appearance on Jay Leno's show. It was slightly uncomfortable for a number of reasons:
- Leno is too nice.
- Limbaugh actually made sense on one point, GM.
- Limbaugh is cunning but he's not crazy; only his followers are!
- Limbaugh never concedes a point. Wish Obama were more like that.
Rush claims that no govt sponsored programs work and that the govt will control everything we do if we let it. He goes on to discuss capitalism in all its glory. Leno does ask fair questions which are sidestepped by Limbaugh who blames the entire sub prime mortgage fiasco on Clinton, Frank, ACORN and pretty much the entire Democratic party.
Taking the opposite side of the path is Michael Moore who feels more government intervention is the only way to control the corrupted interests of big business. Moore is convinced that capitalism is inconsistent with Christianity and the two cannot coincide.
The most interesting perspective about our government comes from Ken Burns who is making the talk show rounds to launch his newest masterpiece: "The National Parks: America's Best Idea".
Ken Burns is a voice of reason and equanimity in a sea of angst. Can't wait for his show to debut.
