Haiti, Limbaugh, Robertson and "...really stupid things."

With the Red Cross estimating 45-50,000 dead from the earthquake in Haiti, we have the following words of wisdom from two of my favorite pundits, Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh.  I don't know which to post first, in other words, who makes the stupidest (sp?) statement.  You decide.

On the 700 Club Wednesday, Robertson suggested the plight of Haiti is a result of a deal with the devil Haitians made with Satan in the late 1700s...Haitians “were under the heel of the French, uh, you know Napoleon the 3rd and whatever, and they got together and swore a pact to the Devil,” Robertson said. “They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'  True story. And so the Devil said, 'Okay, it's a deal.’ And, uh, they kicked the French out, you know, with Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by, by one thing after another…”

On his show Wednesday, Limbaugh was asked by a caller about the president urging Americans to go to Whitehouse.gov to contribute to the Red Cross to help Haitians.
“Would you trust that the money is going to go to Haiti?” Limbaugh said. “Would you trust that your name is going to end up on a mailing list for the Obama people to start asking you for campaign donations for him and other causes?”
Limbaugh added, “besides, we've already donated to Haiti.  It's called the US income tax.”
The talk radio giant said President Obama “runs around the world apologizing for” the US and “he now turns to as its president and asks people who have lost their jobs because of his policies to donate to WhiteHouse.gov to the people of Haiti, and we will do it.  We are the most charitable and the most generous people on the face of the earth.  Each and every time a natural disaster like this happens, we step up.  We are there.”

I first heard snippets of these remarks on "Morning Joe".  I quickly googled Haiti Limbaugh Robertson.  For more stupidity, in depth, visit:    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2010/01/white-house-says-haiti-statements-by-robertson-and-limbaugh-are-really-stupid.html

Thanks for outing these stupid statements. I was so angry with them, I shut them out of my head.

These conservative two are our version of the Taliban…. Trying to misinform, keep people ignorant, and keep us going backwards.

We need to keep calling them out.

I am almost speechless. We know of these two up here in Canada and sometimes feel a little smug that there is no one with the reputation or profile of either to embarrass us. It's probably only a matter of time, though.

They - the ones who reveal how stupid they are - are in the minority, It's just that they get a lot of press being the way they are.

I was infuriated yesterday when I heard about both of these brilliant responses to the earthquake. Actually it's what I referred to when I wrote in today's post "we say stupid things."

Just remember, everything Rush does is for publicity. As for Pat Robertson, that may also be true but I saw the video of him saying that and he looks senile. I do love Stewart's response to "shut your pie hole". He does, unfortunately, have a large faithful audience.

I guess I choose to believe that eventually people like these guys will bury themselves in their own rhetoric.

It was my first thought when John Stewart ran the blips on these two - they will bury themselves in their own muck.

Ah there's a bit of this out on the blogosphere at the moment. What total twattage. How, when so many are suffering interminably can public figures like this whip up such anti charitable statements. I really wish there was an interventionist God sometimes and he'd cut their bloody tongues out. AND, while I'm balancing precariously on this soapbox, why does Obama get blamed for the total lack of fiscal control exercised by his predecessor. He inherited this shit he didn't cause it! You poor people, the world thinks you're all a joke because shock jocks and twats like this get coverage overseas. They aren't doing sensible, ordinary, charitable, caring Amerians ANY favours on the world stage. Ok I'll go now. Love your stuff Cali.

I can't even express an opinion with going into a rage. That this country, so impoverished already, is suffering with its capitol in a shambles, families completely devastated, many with no members left alive, people suffering from terribly traumatic injuries, babies without food or water - while two supposedly educated men make such assinine statements is pathetic.

These people are cheerleaders really - that is, they make the people that like them feel their uncharitable views are morally justifiable. They're symptoms of the problem more than the problem, I think. They are quite predictable.
