I live in the great Northeast. Winter has been what my girlfriend used to call a "titty freezer". She used to say that when we were young, growing up in SoCal, heading to Mammoth or Tahoe to ski. That was a cakewalk compared to how cold it's been here in February.
We woke to -11F this morning. Last night, the wind chill supposedly hit -25F. It's been in the single digits or low teens most of this month...again, not including the wind chill.
Snow, snow, more snow. It just keeps coming.
I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
12" accumulation on our rear deck Valentine's Day |
Bundled up on a 10 degree day, shoveling...shoveling |
Post shoveling Feb 22 with total accumulation 22" |
Turkeys feeding on seeds and dog food my husband scatters. On this morning we counted 17. |

Instead of shooting wild turkey, I'm inclined to drink it.

Whoa! Now that's cold. I am so sorry you have more of this to come. Surely some day soon spring will begin to make an appearance and you'll write about it. :-)
DJan, headed to florida next week. Finally found flights after 3 days of trying. Seems like everyone in the NE is trying to escape.
Hey CG, sounds like your extreme is the polar opposite to our extreme heat, such a shame there's no middle ground :) Haha! You caught my lady in the yellow bikini when I pressed publish
Oh there I did it again :) pressing wrong buttons seems to be my thing:) was going to say pressed publish instead of draft :)
Perth, the happy medium is usually in San Diego, CA. my all time favorite city.
wild turkey shots - don't do that while shoveling. I do like that picture your husband of the turkeys taking off.
We had way too much snow last winter. Not too bad on the snow this year but the temps have been like yours.
As you know, things are similar here in Massachusetts. I'm really sick of the cold, more than the snow.
By the way, if you're interested, my latest post has information on how you can get a free Kindle download of a short comic book story I wrote. But you have to act before Monday, March 1st!
I remember those days well from my years in Maine. 50's today in Italy is better. Loved the photos.
This severe cold and snow def reduced my enjoyment for winter.
I live in NY and I usually go to Vermont or Mass. for a winter ski break. Decided to go to PA. instead this year to avoid the massive snow. Was still 0 degrees without wind chill up on the hill though.
Looking forward to flip flops.
Bill, I'm responding 3/01 and my GF says it's snowing in Cincy today. Don't you live in Ohio or is it Il?
Foxy, today is March 1st. I'm sorry I missed it. I'll check anyway!
Mary, I'm headed to FL this coming Wed. I don't care if it's in the 50s, 60s or whatever. It will be warmer than here.
Christopher, "flip flops"...I'm packing today, Sunday, for my trip Wed. Flip flops are at the top of the list.
I can't even imagine living in weather that cold. Doesn't your pee freeze mid-stream? Stay in Florida until you get a thaw. Love the wild turkeys!
It's Illinois and winter has not left yet.
Brrr! I can't even imagine living where it is that cold. I can see snow from where I live and that is close enough. If I want snow, I can drive to it in about 90 minutes.
In southern Ohio, where I'm from, we call that freezin'-ass cold. Coldest February on record, and March is shaping up to be the same. Gawd, I'm so tired of it, and we haven't had nearly as much snow as you all in the NE.
Enjoy your time in the sun!
