Live Aid

Twenty five years ago, the first Live Aid concerts were held in Wembley Stadium outside London and Philadelphia's JFK stadium.  Live Aid was created by Bob Geldof, of the Boomtown Rats, as a means to raise money to aid hunger in Africa.  It was a Who's Who of artists including Madonna just making her mark on the music scene.

Queen performed.  They were at the top of their game.  Nobody knew it but Freddie Mercury would test positive for Aids and it would eventually kill him in 1991.

Crosby Stills Nash & Young played together for the first time in ten years.

Chrissy and The Pretenders reunited.  I love her.  What a voice!

Probably the most electric moment of the night came when Tina Turner performed with Mick Jagger.  Could she shake it or what?

The list of performers is endless. Look up the videos on YouTube.  They are wonderful.

Live Aid spawned Farm Aid later the same year.  Both raised a great deal of money for their causes.

Farm Aid was organized not by Geldof but Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John "Cougar" Mellankamp.  It was another fantastic concert and well worth remembering when its anniversary rolls around Sept. 22nd.

  3. Good grief 25 years has gone by so fast! I was an absolute crazy Queen and Pretenders fan. Actually I've got the video somewhere but no VHS player. Must try to get it on DVD.

  9. I'd love to go to a concert like that. I saw the Rolling Stones a few years ago. Most fun I'd had in a long, long time. Probably longer than 25 years.
