Searching for images to match the final stanza of the song, I found these incredible photographs in a post written two days after the death of Osama bin Laden, "Standing in a Room of Mirrors" .  She writes a particularly poignant post.

This is lovely. The Edmund Fitzgerald song gets played around here (Minnesota) every year in November and it's kind of stuck in our heads, but I had stopped paying attention until I saw your excerpt. Thanks.

I adore that song. The last stanza is one of the most perfect denouements in music.

I went to see Lightfoot perform about 20 years ago. I remember thinking how old he looked! I was still young, comparatively speaking. He was wonderful and his voice was strong.
