New Year's Resolutions 2015

The whole fam-damily
I NEVER make New Year's resolutions.  I know I'll break them.

This year, however, it feels right.  But I'm going to try to make short term resolutions, achievable and not daunting.  Impossible expectations are why we fail to keep promises to ourselves.

Here goes (in no particular order of importance):
  1. Continue to work out/exercise a minimum three days per week, preferably four a minimum 40 minutes
  2. Reduce my calorie intake by 400 calories per day.
  3. Reduce my alcohol intake (about 3 drinks ea evening) to 1 (=400 cals)
  4. Eat more fresh produce.  Juicing counts so we (hubby & I) should juice daily.
  5. Eat less bread.
  6. Try to ignore, excuse, ignore or forgive my MIL who is now 88 and lives with us.
  7. Fight less with my husband, i.e. stop feeling defensive.
  8. Buy new clothes when I lose 10 lbs.
  9. Worry less about my sons and their futures.  Is this possible?
  10. Stop obsessing over my fading looks.  Is this possible?
  11. Keep my job for at least one more year (hopefully 3).
  12. Adopt another pound dog.

  13. Our wonderful dog Dewey
Meditate as often as I can.
  14. Don't worry about my swearing.  It's what I do.
  15. Enjoy life more; worry less.
TRX at the gym
Okay.  This seems doable.  It's also not a monumental list.  It's common sense.  Perhaps I'll put it in the sidebar of this blog so I have to look at it often.

I hope your New Year brings you happiness, health and peace.  It's what really counts!

400 calories a day is a lot to cut back! Maybe you should change that to 200? Just saying' you'll be a stick in no time! :-)

I think the resolutions are silly and why shouldn't be making them all year long if we do make them? That said I like #14. I did try using foreign words instead and even "foxtrot".

Love that family pic and love your list, too. It's very similar to mine! :) Good luck in keeping your resolutions, and have a Happy New Year! Cheers, cher!

Djan, you're probably right. Okay 200!
It's really about my alcohol intake which is my way of self medicating. Maybe I'll start smoking pot if they ever authorize medical marijuana shops in NH.

Bill, resolutions are often silly but I need to motivate myself so I'm using this method.

I meditated yesterday, exercised and cut back by one drink. I also ignored my MIL and didn't look in the mirror. hahahaha!

Marguerite, great minds think alike! So glad you are still visiting. I'll visit you to see if your resolutions include more dancing & meal prep! You have the most delish recipes.

I'm still dithering about my "shoulds" and "want tos." I refuse to call them resolutions. And I won't make as long a list as you have.... I think I'd pick two or three. But that's just me. We'll see how long it takes me to actually write them! Happy New Year.

I like your list. I should probably post it in MY sidebar. :) Bread. OMG, it and sugar are my downfall, and probably my self-medication. And speaking of alcohol, you know you should cut back for your heart's sake. One drink good, three not so good. But I sure do understand the reasons for needing it. I'm surprised I'm not an alcoholic by now. Probably the only reason I'm not is that I really don't care for the taste that much.

I swear too. I think a good swear word is highly underrated. Sometimes there's just no other better words to express one's frustration. And you seem to have about as much as I do.

Keep on hanging in there, kiddo. And I will too.

Bliss, My demanding list is a bunch of shoulds, for sure. I will be happy if I can succeed in some of them.

Susan, I know. It's crazy. Drinking is a big problem for me. and I do like the taste. Wine is my Achilles heel.

Just sent you an email because I'm unable to leave a comment on your blog.

I hope you fulfill them all...and I'm guessing you will achieve better than 50 percent.

Good luck and Happy New Year.

My MIL was nearly a 100 when she passed from this life, my hubs her oldest child from her second marriage had a child 17 when he was born was her favorite she thought him her husband and banker, NOT NOT AND more not! I was polite but we lived a big river away and it cost long distance to call us but call she did..We paid for the arrangements when she passed her no good kids argued at the funeral place, I jumped up and said SHAME ON YOU ASSHOLES, PAID IT WITH MY BRAND NEW VISA CARD AND HAVE SPOKEN TO ANY OF THEM SINCE! That was 2000 December and to tell you the truth we have never missed them. You are fortunate to even have your MIL living in your home, let alone have a nice relationship????????? I have an only child and she knows our advance directives and knows I would not want any bullshit if I got that crotctchy with her and or anyone, she knows what to do and when..One has a hard enough time to live let alone live with an elderly MIL and listen and be annoyed out of one's mind..we were happy for the big river and living in another state..your resolutions are doable, be happy, this a short time on this terrestrial, you must be a wonderful human being you rescue doggies from the pound..that in itself is a good deal to do..ciao!

All positive goals CG.. I'm going to try and stop having toast in the evening AFTER dinner, too late tonight so starting tomorrow :)

Anon, sounds like you had quite the family dramas. I guess we all do. Trust me, living with my MIL is no picnic. I'm just choosing not to rant about her right now. Another time...

Perth, "toast"! That sounds so doable, hahahahaha! Love it. Wish it were my vice.

Love the family photo!

I think your list is great, even if you only accomplish a few of those things, I'd still say you were successful...

My only resolution is to establish (and stick to) a cut off time relating to eating. I do most of my eating between 9 and midnight. I don't know why, but I've always done that.

California Girl said...

Pat, really? 9PM to Mid? I couldn't wait to eat that late if I tried. I wouldn't make a very successful European.
