Inauguration Day 2009 from politico.com
I read today's post on The Gold Puppy and felt the need to comment in agreement on the hopefulness we have as we enter a new decade. My comment turned into a post so here 'tis:
Really good points you make. I also believe we are seriously re-evaluating the way we live. The recession will be a learning tool if we curtail impulse spending, put the banks on notice about credit cards, i.e cut them up and close our accts if they refuse to give us reasonable APRs and reduce the insane fees they now charge. Vegetable gardens are flourishing. Our local Green Team began one last Spring and now have triple the amount of space requested for the coming Spring. We consider it a great accomplishment. The variety of hybrid cars and smart cars gives me hope. As for the O Admin, well, I, too, have been frustrated by the Afghanistan commitment and his seeming lack of standing up to the Republicans on the health care issue. But, the 12/28 issue of Newsweek is filled with interviews of his cabinet as well as past members of of the Executive branch and it puts things in a more balanced perspective than I have. His admin is young and he's accomplished alot, despite the naysayers. So, I welcome the new decade and hope it brings happiness, renewed faith, hard work and a greater sense of responsibility to all concerned...even the Right Wing. LOL.

I think it will be a slow process but people are beginning to realise that the economic crisis is a signal or at the very least a catalyst for change. Already we have TV commercials promoting green energy as a job creation initiative. As soon as we realise that there is an economic benefit to recycling, reusing and reducing more will embrace it. I heard something about a health bill being passed but haven't caught up with the news yet?
Amen, sister! I couldn't agree more with your comment/post! There is lots of room and reason for hope!
Well said....except I don't welcome the Right wing.....nope.
Happy 2010! May it be our best year ever!
Baino: Are you asking whether or not our health care reform bill passed? It passed, with severe modifications, the Senate after already passing the House who'd also modified it. Will not be law until it passed through both houses of Congress with the changes since made. There is no public option but there is a provision preventing insurance cos from denying pre-existing conditions.
Susan: I think we are going to have to become much more vocal and active in this decade.
Ima: Remember "I'm a uniter, not a divider"? hahahhaha!
I'm with you! On Obama, and also on those credit cards. They are loan sharks in disguise. I refuse to get another one without a guaranteed LOW interest rate. I'm not lining their pockets anymore to my own detriment.
Hello FL: My younger son is getting KILLED by a 24% interest rate right now. He went into overdraft w/ a $5.30 purchase which triggered a $39 ISF fee and now the interest has triggered 3 more fees. He currently owes the bank $221+.
wonderful sentiments indeed.
Thank you for posting this. I have felt nothing but numbness and disinterest. I get to a helpless point where even keeping up on the news seems pointless. So I needed this, and I'll read the Newsweek stuff because I need that perspective.
It's up to us, you know. I don't just mean activism. But I mean living life daily with circumspection, as if it matters, because it does. Finding balance is incredibly difficult. We all need to step back and observe all of it, and ourselves, regularly.
